Help Us Improve the Green Bay Area Mom Book Club!

0

The truth has definitely been stranger than fiction this year!  When Amanda and I put together a plan for the Green Bay Area Mom Book Club late last year, we thought we’d have fun little quarterly gatherings in a bookstore or library setting. I envisioned a group of moms seated around a big table together, all of us sharing laughs and chatting about our favorite books.

Then COVID hit.

Our March gathering was moved online, and we scratched our heads as to the best way to move forward. Quarterly or monthly? Online or in-person? As you all know by now, we’ve pieced together a hybrid book club model that allows for live and virtual participation—and we are grateful to all of you for sticking with us through these changes!

Now, on to 2021.

As I (Laura) have mentioned in previous posts, my family is taking COVID by the horns and turning lemons into lemonade, as we use this year of virtual work and school to travel the United States. Our plan at this point (and who knows whether this will come to fruition?) is to fly home to Green Bay in December to celebrate the holidays with our loved ones. So I will be able to lead the Dec. 14 book club discussion of Celeste Ng’s “Little Fires Everywhere” in person at Titletown’s Rockland Terrace. (Hope you are enjoying this one! I couldn’t put it down! Her first novel, “Everything I Never Told You” is equally as enchanting. Bring Kleenex!) January through May, however, will see us on the road. That is why I’m asking for your help.

  1. First and foremost, we would LOVE to have more members in our book club! Not to worry, this is not meant to be scholarly or intimidating—even if you can’t finish the book (or even start!) each month, don’t let that stop you from joining the Facebook group! Feel free to invite your friends as well. At the bare minimum, you will get some good reading recommendations. You might even meet some new mom friends!
  2. We would also LOVE your help in choosing next year’s book club titles! For January, we are taking a poll in our Book Club group to determine our first and definitely humorous title. The year 2020 has been far too serious; it is time to give ourselves a good laugh! Secondly, in honor of Black History Month, our February title will be Michelle Obama’s memoir, “Becoming.” The rest of the year is still TBD. Got a favorite title, author, or genre? Let us know in the comments or in the Facebook group!
  3. Finally, we NEED your feedback on when, where, and how to meet! Do Monday nights work for you? Should we shake things up in 2021? This is YOUR book club, moms. We’re here to listen to you!

Please reach out to us in the comments section or on our book club Facebook page with any and all suggestions, thoughts, and recommendations. Thanks, Moms!!
